ROBERT A. SCHUERGER II, FOUNDER OF THE LAW OFFICES OF ROBERT A. SCHUERGER CO., LPA, NAMED 2017 HUBZONE OWNER OF THE YEAR BY HUBZONE CONTRACTORS NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Columbus, Ohio- The Law Offices of Robert A. Schuerger Co., LPA announced today that its founder – Robert A. Schuerger II, has been named HUBZone Owner of the Year by the HUBZone Contactors National Council. The HUBZone Owner of the Year award recognizes the small business leader who best demonstrates leadership skills in the workplace, supports and encourages employee development, exhibits effective corporate management skills and promotes the values and spirit of the HUBZone Program. The award recognizes Mr. Schuerger’s commitment to creating and bringing well-paying jobs to residents of economically distressed communities (i.e. Historically Underutilized Business Zones) and helping restore these communities’ economic vitality and well-being.

In accepting the award Mr. Schuerger stated “In addition to helping us grow from eight employees four years ago to more than 50 employees today, I am most gratified that we’ve been able to take advantage of our federal HUBZone certification to secure federal contracts that have led to meaningful professional and managerial jobs that have restored personal dignity and self-worth for dozens of our employees who were formerly unemployed or underemployed.”

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) awards HUBZone Certification to companies that locate in and employ a minimum of 35% of their workforce with residents living in designated HUBZ areas. SBA certification helps Schuerger Law secure preferential federal contract opportunities. By locating its offices in and hiring employees from these communities, Schuerger Law not only creates a diverse and vibrant workforce, but it also promotes important economic revitalization of historically distressed inner cities and rural areas hard hit by high unemployment, job losses and business closures over the past several years. Schuerger Law is one of only a handful of law firms to be certified as a HUBZone small business.

“We appreciate Robert Schuerger’s strong advocacy for the HUBZone program”, said Mark Crowley, the HUBZone Council’s Executive Director. “He demonstrated his leadership earlier this year when he presented testimony before Congress in support of HR 3294, The HUBZone Unification and Business Stability Act of 2017. We applaud his leadership and recognize his contributions to this program and to his employees by awarding their founder – Robert Schuerger, with this award.”

“I am honored to receive this award on behalf of the employees of Schuerger Law”, said Schuerger. “I want to acknowledge that we have been able to create a unique and beneficial partnership with Franklin and Clinton Counties’ Job & Family Services departments to recruit, train and fund the hiring of HUBZone residents who would have otherwise faced limited opportunities for employment. I thank our public sector partners and the HUBZone Contactors National Council for this distinct honor.”
